Biography
C’aira Neal was born and raised in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. C’aira is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) licensed in the District of Columbia. She is currently using her LGPC to pursue her Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credentials. C’aira earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hampton
University. Also, she earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
C’aira’s academic training has provided her with solid instruction including ethics, accurate diagnosis, and theory. Her experience in a community mental health setting has provided her with skills in culturally competent individual and group counseling. C’aira’s personal experience has provided her with the ability to understand, empathize, and empower individuals who are
experiencing mental health difficulties. She is skilled in providing counseling services in Washington, DC to African American Adults (18 and over) experiencing a broad spectrum of mental health issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. C’aira has experience in co-facilitating group counseling sessions for Smoking Cessation, Grief
and Loss, Women’s Trauma, Mindfulness Meditation, and Substance Abuse.
C’aira’s theoretical orientation is grounded in an eclectic approach including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and other therapeutic techniques. She incorporates therapeutic practices that foster personal growth and change by acquiring new ways of learning and thinking through logic and flexibility, self-
acceptance, personal competence and awareness of one’s full potential. C’aira is passionate about benefiting the lives of others by promoting self-actualizing growth, achieving cognitive and behavioral change, and establishing an interconnectedness of thinking, feeling, and behaving to live a happier and fulfilling life.
During C’aira’s time away from counsel, she enjoys journaling, writing poetry, reading books, coloring, cooking, cleaning, exercising, listening to music, dancing in the mirror, watching comedies, psychological thrillers, and African American documentaries. One of C’aira’s favorite quotes is “Let your life prove the change in your heart.”
