Biography
Chevon is a dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia and Virginia, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland (LCPC), a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and Board Certified TeleMental Health (BC-TMH) provider. Her goal is to enhance lives through the many facets of mental health. Chevon believes that social support, perseverance, preparation and being informed are imperative facets for the achievement of one’s goals. She embraces each person she comes in contact with, helping to cultivate a greater understanding of themselves. She believes in educating, providing cultural sensitivity, and imparting hope are a few key components to achieving awareness and fostering growth.
Chevon brings a wealth of knowledge and combined life experience to Onyx Therapy Group. As a psychotherapist, student, parent, and member of society growing up within the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, she has witnessed firsthand the impacts of substance abuse and untreated mental health in the black community. Chevon has served the community in her profession for over 7 years utilizing a variety of interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness. Using these tools, Chevon is able to help her clients begin a process toward healing, gaining insight and knowledge as well as learn to cope and effectively handle challenges. As a graduate of Trinity Washington University with a masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Chevon is well versed in subjects such as anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, life transitions and substance use. She has conducted individual and group counseling that benefits the overall wellness of her clients and assists in healthy processing. Chevon has experience working with a variation of clients to include children, adolescents/teens, adults, returning citizens, firefighters, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Chevon continues to cultivate her craft through professional development and other learning opportunities. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of counseling and mental health through various outlets. Chevon is in constant pursuit of knowledge for personal and professional application. In doing such, Chevon has been featured in an article for the American Psychological Association (APA) and presented insightful and educational information to both undergraduate students as well as graduate students who are studying to become future therapists.
Chevon is passionate and dedicated to serving the community while ensuring to create a balanced living approach to mental health. When she’s not helping others, Chevon takes pleasure in spending quality time with her family, seeing the wonders of the world, watching cinema and playing sports. Her desire is to help those she comes in contact with to commence a journey to become their best selves.
