Community and Mental Health

These days, it seems that topics and conversations surrounding mental health are increasing, and rightfully so! Humans are multifaceted beings, and in conjunction with our physical, emotional, and spiritual health, our psychological health is imperative too!

Indeed, these mechanisms arguably work together to influence our lives, which lead to

the question: if humans are multifaceted beings, then why do we so often fall under the

misconception that we have to tackle everything alone?

The truth is, there is a stigma surrounding asking for help. There can be fear surrounding

being vulnerable, appearing weak, or incapable. On top of that, it can be easy to compare

ourselves to others, worrying about what the next person will think if we fall short.

Community provides a sense of belonging, support, and purpose, says the National

Institute of Mental Health. While we are certainly wonderful by ourselves, we are even more

spectacular together.

So, with this blog, I encourage you to lean on your community. Whether it's that neighbor you keep seeing but never talk to, your coworker, or your dog. Lean on them. Talk to them. Seek support. Allow yourself to fall short, be imperfect, and not have it all together. Give yourself grace. It truly takes a village! And you deserve one.
